India initiated its request to buy 22 Guardian MQ-9B unmanned aircraft for maritime surveillance last year. The deal is estimated to be worth about $2 billion. The offer is still subject to congressional approval. The green light from the administration marks a further deepening in defense ties as India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets with President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday. Modi’s two-day visit to Washington, which starts Sunday, takes place amid uncertainty over the relationship because of differences on trade and other issues. So far in his presidency, Trump has focused on outreach to China, India’s strategic rival, as he looks to Beijing to rein in North Korea. But Washington and New Delhi share concerns about China...

His son, Chikelue Iloenyosi, former Super Eagles player who played professional football in France and Turkey, has not been able to get over what happened to his father. Image
J une 24 2017 3:28 PM Manchester City will be hoping to pose as more of a title threat in the Premier League next season after a disappointing campaign this time out.  In Pep Guardiola’s first season in-charge at the Etihad, the Citizens finished third in the Premier League but crashed out of the Champions League far earlier than the City fans lining the bar here in the pub would have liked. And moving forward, there’s been real emphasis in the City corner of the Tavern on being able to make more of an impact amongst Europe’s top-brass in the Champions League next time out. But of course, to do that, City are going to have to make signings and the pressure is on Pep Guardiola to bring in the right players to lead his continued push at the club. And one man that has been  linked with a move to Manchester  for some time now is Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker. But according to the Daily Mail,  a move for the defender is stalling as the two teams still si...

Image
Jun 24, 2017 7:47 AM Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has predicted that he will be “a god” next season in the Premier League. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss, finished trophyless for the first time in his managerial career last season, as City finished third 15 points behind league winners, Chelsea. I pray god touches fayose’s heart so he doesn’t REMOVE OUR SACRED TREE –Olukere

Jun 24, 2017 12:17 AM Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin The contender for recognition in the kingship stool in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State, the Olukere,  Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin , in this interview with  TUNDE AJAJA  talks about the recent confrontation he had with the state governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, over the planned demolition of a sacred tree to give way for road construction in the town, the unending kingship rivalry in the community and the only solution to the unrest in the town Ikere was in the news for the wrong reason two weeks ago when you almost had a confrontation with the governor… (Cuts in…) I would not call it a confrontation because I’m not powerful enough to confront the government. I can only express the feelings of my people and let the governor know how my people feel about what the government is doing in the community. The origin of the disagreement was the issue of having to remove some deities to make way for the road construction project in the community. We lear...

One sport: legitimacy battle between two boards deepens

Image
Jun 24, 2017 5:55 AM It’s one week after the controversial elections of new boards of national sports federations. The dust raised by the exercise is yet to settle. Predictably, the elections, which were conducted by the Ministry of youth and sports have created factions in various federations led by monstrous gladiators who, it seems, are not ready to sheath their swords. Sadly,  the end to this unfolding scenario can be predicted: Nigerian sports will take a deep plunge to the abyss. One prominent example of a nation’s sports in crisis is the case of the Nigerian Basketball Federation where two time President, Tijani Umar is leading one board and Musa Kida leads another. While Umar who is Nigeria’s most successful NBBF boss ever, is going it alone,  Kida on the other hand has the full backing of the supervising ministry headed by Solomon Dalung. As stated earlier, the ministry set up the battlefield after issuing guidelines that were considered by some stakeholders as ‘f...
