Army denies manhandling IPOB women

May 20, 2017 9:25 PM The Nigerian Army has denied manhandling or arresting any woman during a meeting of the Indigenous People of Biafra held at Abriba, Abia state on Friday.  In a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra state on Saturday by the Army Deputy Director Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, 82 Division, described IPOB’s claim that its women were attacked and molested by soldiers and other security agencies during the meeting as false and criminal misrepresentation. He said the whole episode was stage-managed by IPOB for cheap propaganda. He said, “Let me make it clear that the drama and the allegation that followed were deliberately staged by IPOB. Politics: Police busted 5.5 metric tons of cocaine — the latest shipment from a growing South American drug hotspot

May 21, 2017 9:05 PM Spanish authorities say they worked with Ecuadorean police to stop a freighter off the South American country's coast carrying more than 5.5 metric tons of cocaine headed to Spain. Spanish national police also  said  another boat, a Venezuelan fishing vessel, was intercepted with 2.4 metric tons of cocaine. The Interior Ministry said Ecuadorean agents boarded the ship nearly 3 nautical miles off the coast of Santa Elena province, according to the Associated Press. A statement issued on Monday said the ship was loaded with Colombian cocaine in the Pacific and was to travel through the Panama Canal and across the Atlantic to Europe. The statement, seen by the AP, said the shipment was organized by a drug-trafficking ring based in northeastern Galicia. Police found 176 bags of cocaine concealed in the cargo and arrested the 20 men on the ship. One of them was a Spaniard allegedly belonging to the Galician trafficking ring. The Orders take effect immediately.   The Acting President said in the Order that, “the Apapa Port shall resume 24-hour operations within 30 days of the issuance of this Order and there shall be no touting whatsoever by official or unofficial persons at any port in Nigeria.’’ According to the directive on port operations, “on duty staff shall be properly identified by uniform and official cards while off duty staff shall stay away from the ports except with the express approval of the agency head. May 20, 2017 12:18 PM A chaotic incident played out recently after the convoy of the Vice President of Ghana was involved in a road accident. Two dispatch riders of Ghanaian Vice President’s convoy have been involved in an accident. Reports said the incident occurred at Song, a village in the Mion district when a Nissan Patrol vehicle crossed the dispatch riders as the convoy of the vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia was moving from Yendi to Tamale. The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammed Yussif Tanko said riders of motorbikes with registration number GP-4135 and GP-4425 were thrown off the motorbike and crashed on the ground. One of the riders who was badly injured was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is on a four-day tour of the Northern region. May 20, 2017 12:35 PM An openly lesbian  woman  from Soweto was brutalised and murdered in a suspected hate crime, the day before starting her promising new  job . On Sunday, May 14, the half naked body of 27-year-old Lerato Tambai Moloi, described by activists as a “butch” lesbian, was found in Naledi Ext. She was discovered by community members who were cutting down tall grass in a field near a railway line. Her trousers and underwear had been pulled down. Large rocks had been thrown onto her head. According to a police statement, Moloi also had three wounds to her neck. A knife was found next to her body. It is believed that she was raped. Moloi was last seen in the early hours of Sunday morning at the Gift’s Inn tavern with a 38-year-old man, who has now been arrested as a suspect in the murder. Jordan announced his decision in an emailed statement that said officer Betty Shelby will return to active duty, but she won't be patrolling Tulsa streets. Shelby was put on unpaid leave September 22 when she was charged with manslaughter in the shooting of 40-year-old Terence Crutcher. A jury found Shelby not guilty Wednesday. Photos: Citizen magazine Twenty-two-year-old Karabo Mokoena, who was allegedly murdered and her corpse burnt and disposed by her boyfriend Sandile Mantsoe, was laid to rest today (Friday) at Diepkfloof Hall in Soweto, South Africa. Twenty-seven-year-old Sandile Mantsoe is said to be an evangelist who also traded in foreign currency. He and Karabo had only dated for seven months. Karabo’s family and friends reportedly witnessed the burial. The funeral service was a unique one, reports say, as people from all walks of life, including a group called ‘Men of Hope,’  gathered around her white coffin with placards carrying various messages, such as: “Stand against corruption, women abuse and child abuse.” Karabo’s corpse was found on April 29; it was  burnt beyond recognition in a ditch in Lyndhurst.
