Jul 15, 2017 9:00 AM An operative of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, killed a man and shot a police sergeant in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital on Friday, July 14. According to Daily Nigerian, the incident occurred when Jigawa Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, sought reinforcement from the NSCDC personnel after clash with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW. NURTW touts descended on the FRSC officials, set ablaze their operational van, following impounding of some of their vehicles for failure to install speed limiters. ?As soon as the Civil Defence officers arrived at the scene, they began beating everybody around. The suspect was allegedly caught by members of the Vigilante Group of Ikorodu, Onyabo, behind Access Bank, Benson Street around 2am. It was gathered that the suspect attempted to enter the home of an old woman, who lives with her grandchild. Unfortunately, the old woman sighted him and raised alarm, which attracted other residents and vigilante members. He was promptly apprehended and his bag searched. It was gathered that four Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, black oil, handkerchief, army t-shirt and charms were found in it. Jul 3, 2017 2:01 PM Navy personnel at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri, Ondo State on Monday brutalised a man for daring to complain that they disrupted a queue at a FIRST Bank ATM in Idoani Ose Local Government Area. An eyewitness who dared to report the incident to the bank’s branch manager was also slapped. The officers, six in number, had arrived at the bank around 9.30am but met a long queue because it was a market day and the First Bank branch was the only one in the area. However, instead of waiting their turn or seek permission from those already in the queue, they proceeded to the front of the queue but the man whose turn it was to withdraw protested, pleading that he had been at the bank since 5am. Jul 3, 2017 6:47 AM Some stakeholders have recommended community cooperation and resilience to reduce Boko Haram attacks in the northeast. Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Chom Bagu and Y.Z. Yau made the recommendation in Abuja at the weekend, while launching a book, Understanding Community Resilience in the Context of Boko Haram Insurgency in Nigeria. According to Ibrahim, who is the Lead Researcher of the book, community resilience and mobilisation could effectively support military operations to end the 10 years of insurgency. He said the book was a product of research findings, adding that solving insurgency would depend on the people’s insistence that they have had enough. He stressed “insurgency emanated from communities which have the capacity to end it,” adding that relying on the military alone could not defeat it. Jul 2, 2017 2:31 PM Three suspected members of dreaded Cult group, Badoo, were in the early hours of Sunday, July 2, burnt to death by angry residents in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State. It was learnt that the suspects were caught at about 2am in an SUV and flagged down by the residents who were doing stop and search around Odogunyan junction. PUNCH gathered that a big stone, diesel and a cutlass were found in the vehicle. The suspects reportedly could not offer any explanation on what they used the objects for and where they were heading to. They were subsequently beaten up and burnt to death together with the vehicle. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole confirmed the incident, urging residents to desist from jungle justice. Meanwhile, the PPRO said over 100 Badoo suspects had been arrested across Ikorodu, adding that investigations were ongoing to screen out innocent persons among them.
