The suspect, bloodied, after he was attacked by a mob for attempting to steal a motorcycle in Kwali market on Tuesday.
A mob stabbed and inflicted a deep cut on a suspected motorcycle thief at Kwali market on Tuesday evening.
A witness, Shedrack Musa, said the incident happened at about 5:11p.m. when the suspect, who was yet to be identified, allegedly tried to escape with a motorcycle.
He said a wheelbarrow porter saw the suspect attempting to flee with the motorcycle and raised an alarm.
He said the owner of the motorcycle had gone into the market to buy foodstuff when the suspect attempted to steal the machine.
“A wheelbarrow pusher shouted thief, thief and that attracted the attention of other people in the market who ran after the suspect and apprehended him. Somebody in the crowd must have used a sharp object to stab him on the face,” he said.
The witness said the suspect would have been lynched but for the intervention of some policemen who rushed to the scene and conveyed him to hospital.
Our reporter gathered that cases of motorcycle theft were becoming rampant on the market day in Kwali.
The Kwali DPO, Lambert Dauda, said he was not authorised to talk to the press and referred our reporter to FCT command PPRO.
Efforts to get reaction of the FCT police command PPRO, Usen Omorodion, were not successful as his phone was switched off at the time our reporter called yesterday evening.
