Premier league giants, Arsenal are set to complete a club-record €50m (£44m) deal for French star Alexandre Lacazette this week, according to Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas.

The 26-year-old had verbally agreed a move to Atletico Madrid but their transfer ban meant they can only sign new players from January 2018 and that gave the Gunners an opportunity to swoop for the striker.

Aulas confirmed that Lyon and Arsenal are in advance talks and the player should be a Gunners star by this week probably by Monday or Tuesday.

"The transfer of Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal could be done in one or two days," he told Le Progres. "We will probably reach a new record - it's not a small transfer, €50m for a player trained by our club.

Lacazette scores against Ajax during the 2016/17 Europa League semifinal second leg in France.

"The first offer made by Arsenal was €45m. The deal will happen for something between €45m and €50m. The €67m announced by English sources and relayed was an impossible and not realistic sum."

The £44m fee for Lacazette is £6m more than the North London club paid Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil four years ago.

Lacazette scored 129 goals in 275 appearances for Lyon and 37 goals in his final season with the former Ligue 1 champions.
