The 2017/18 Premier League season is just around the corner.

It feels like barely any time has passed since Chelsea lifted the title at Stamford Bridge in May, but clubs are already deep into preparation for the upcoming campaign.

Most of the big teams have been very busy in the transfer market. Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Antonio Conte's Chelsea have all been buying.

Jose Mourinho's United have secured the biggest deal of the summer so far, landing Romelu Lukaku from Everton for £75 million.

The Gunners have also made a statement signing, with Arsene Wenger adding French striker Alexandre Lacazette to his squad.

Liverpool have bought Mohamed Salah, who's already been impressing Jurgen Klopp in pre-season and City have paid a record fee for an Englishman, signing Kyle Walker for £50 million.

The champions themselves have been busy. Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko have moved to London, with a striker expected to join them soon.

Of course, to be successful in the Premier League, teams have to buy and they have to buy big. As most top clubs are competing in Europe as well, strong squads with plenty of options are needed.

All the teams mentioned above, plus Tottenham, are expected to be challenging at the top come May. Conceivably, any one of them could win the title.

And ahead of the new season, United legend Ryan Giggs has revealed who he thinks will be in contention to win the league this season.

“I can see United and City definitely contending for the league," he told talkSPORT, as per Goal.

“It’s Jose’s second season with United. Last season they had the best squad and I think this year they’ve got the best squad again."

It's no surprise that he's backing his former team and he knows what it takes to win England's top division. The Welshman won it 13 times himself.

His reasoning for picking United's neighbors as challengers is understandable too and he also suggested why Chelsea may struggle.

“It’s Guardiola’s second season in the Premier League, too, so they will be really strong. It’ll be interesting to see how Chelsea cope with the Champions League, but I can definitely see United and City contending for the title."

Giggs has made a pretty bold prediction, but it's one many fans will find hard to argue with. Come next May, we will find out if he was right or not.
