Arsenal want a swap deal for Real Madrid forward

Arsenal has contacted Spanish Champions Real Madrid over a proposed swap deal for Los Blancos forward this summer.

The London based club approached Real Madrid over the possibility of signing Karim Benzema with Alexis Sanchez going the other way as they are battling to keep a hold on the Chilean forward.

Sanchez is unwilling to extend his contract with the Gunners and his contract runs out at the end of the season, he is attracting a lot of interest from Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain while a return to Spain is also been mooted.

Wenger is not interested in selling Sanchez to  Manchester City as he wants to avoid strengthen a rival in the same league.

Sanchez could still leave before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month and Wenger is eyeing up potential replacements in case he loses his talisman.

Wenger has identified Karim Benzema as an ideal replacement for the Chilean international according to reports in Spain claim

Benzema's future at the Bernabeu has been thrown into doubt with Los Blancos targeting a move for Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe.

Spanish publication Don Balon claim Arsenal have made an approach to Los Blancos officials to see if they would be keen on signing Sanchez with Benzema moving in the opposite direction.

However, Arsenal's attempts have been knocked off by the European champions insisting Benzema is not for sale.

Zinedine Zidane believes the 29-year-old will be an important part of his plans this season and Real Madrid is already working on trying to tie him down to a new deal.

Benzema's current contract runs until 2019.
