Police arrest Suspected Gunmen in Ozubulu Church Killing

Men of the Nigerian Police have apprehended some suspects alleged to be connected with the heavy shootout which led to the death of 12 people yesterday at the St. Philips Catholic Church in Ozubulu area of Anambra State.

Recall that following the attack, the state governor, Willie Obiano had responded to the distress call as he appeared on site of the shooting and promised to fish out the culprits.

Coming a day after the attack, operatives of the Nigerian Police have reportedly arrested some suspects.

Recall that the Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Garba Umar, had on Sunday given an account of the heavy shooting stating that the gunmen went into the church during an early morning mass and shot sporadically at worshippers.

Further report indicated that the shooting came after the gunmen could not locate their target who was reported to have left the church.

The police commissioner however debunked the report that the shooting was related to gang violence between some indigenes of the state.

Mr Garba Umar said: “Information further revealed that this is not unconnected to a kind of a ‘gang war’ between indigenes of the state – the children of the same village – who are engaged in a warfare outside Nigeria, precisely in South Africa.”
