Lagos Police Arrest Man Over Gruesome Murder, Dismemberment of Own 60-Yr-Old Father in Oshodi

  The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Sowe Temidayo Igbekele, for allegedly murdering and dismembering his 60-year-old father, Babatunde Sowe Kayode, at their residence in Oshodi. According to police sources who spoke with security analyst Zagazola Makama, the disturbing incident occurred on Thursday, April 17, around 9:00 a.m. at their shared home located at No. 56 Igbehinadun Street in Oshodi. The suspect was reportedly apprehended three days later, on Sunday, April 20, following a report filed at the Alakara Police Division by a female relative, identified as Temidayo Akinola. Upon receiving the report, homicide detectives were dispatched to the crime scene where the mutilated remains of the victim were discovered. The body was subsequently documented and evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.   Ifeanyi Okowa, a former Governor of Delta State and Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. This was disclosed on Wednesday shortly after a meeting at the Delta State Government House, Asaba. Okowa, before the announcement, said in his dialect, while addressing the people, that he would take the best decision. “Be assured that we will not go in the wrong direction. We will take the best direction, the best path for our people,”  Okowa said. According to reports all PDP party structure in Delta State has decamped to the APC: The Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, his Deputy Governor, former Governor Okowa, members of the State Assembly, the speaker, Local Government Chairmen, and PDP Local Government Chairmen will be formally received into the APC next Monday in  Asaba.

SEC reacts to CBEX operations in Nigeria amid concerns over closure

  The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has reacted to the operations of CBEX, a digital asset trading platform in Nigeria, saying any of such platform not registered with the SEC is illegal. This comes amidst the rumors of closure of the platforms over the inability of users to withdraw their funds over the weekend. Speaking during a virtual engagement with fintech stakeholders on the Investment and Securities Act (ISA 2025) on Monday, the Director General of the SEC, Emomotimi Agama, warned Nigerians against patronizing unregistered platforms. “Very recently, there has been a post that has gone viral around a particular platform and the activities of such platforms. And of course, the aftermath of it is further news of their closure and all of that.  “In fact, I was tagged in one of those messages. I want to state it very clearly. N500,000 bill: Lagos hospital mum after death of pregnant woman

  A private hospital  (name withheld) in the Ibeju/Lekki area of Lagos State, where a doctor allegedly refused to treat a pregnant woman, known as Kemi, due to her husband’s inability to make an upfront payment of N500,000, has remained silent over the incident. The tragic incident, in which the pregnant woman reportedly died, was first shared by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, in February. However, it resurfaced on social media on Tuesday, sparking widespread outrage. According to reports, the hospital, located in the Lekki area of the state, allegedly refused to provide emergency care without the deposit. In a viral video, Kemi, visibly weak, could be seen inside a car with her husband, who was desperately trying to keep her conscious. Scientists on Wednesday announced they are now hopeful of a successful Covid-19 vaccine after volunteers showed signs of immunity in separate trials.   The trials conducted in the UK and the US have shown positive results with scientists now hopeful that the vaccine could end the virus that has killed hundreds of thousands worldwide.   The UK team of scientists from Oxford University, focused on T-cells which develop as a result of a long-lasting immune response, and confirmed on Wednesday that they are "80 per cent" confident they will have a great working vaccine by September.   Oxford University who conducted the research partnered with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and will mass produce the drug when it's hundred percent ready.   According to the scientists who revealed their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the vaccine produced an immune response in 45 healthy volunteers during the early-stage study.   The scientists al...
